Mitral Transcatheter Edge-To-Edge Repair (TEER) is a minimally invasive procedure for treating mitral valve regurgitation, a condition in which the valve between the heart's left chambers become leaky. During this procedure, a flexible, hollow tube (catheter) is inserted through a blood vessel to reach the heart and repair the mitral valve. Unlike traditional open heart surgery, the heart never stops beating during the procedure. There are no major incisions with TEER and patients are typically able to walk the same day and return home the following day.
The decision to have TEER is made after talking with a team of heart doctors and heart surgeons. The team works together to determine the best treatment option for you.
